This summer, a little futon couch was donated to our organization. I knew my staff needed a place to come plop down and just talk though things sometimes so we added it to the office where the doctor and I sit, dreaming of a day when we can create a "peace room"-- a place where we can hash out the hard things, the cool things and everything in between. A hang out room, we'd call it if we were a high school group! :)
Not long after we got the couch, Alan sat down and said "Hey Krysta, remember when..." He told me about a patient in need who really didn't have a lot of drive, self worth or whatever it was keeping him from working out his dental care. His sister however, advocated for him over and over. Alan told me that throughout the treatment process, this story reminded him of another familiar story from the Bible.
I made Alan repeat it right then and there and as I watched the video, it stood out to me that as we combat the crisis in barriers to care, this has been an issue for thousands of years! Even the paralytic Alan refers to in the Bible story encountered barriers to care. The dude could not even get in the door to see the doctor! Even if he could have physically walked in, the place was packed!! AND since thousand of years, God has been calling those who care to find ways to help those in need! All it takes is faith! Seriously, his friends cut a hole in the roof... And I thought ADC had a "hybrid" model!! :)
Thanks for sharing the paralleling of Mark 2 to your interactions with this beautiful sister and brother story Alan!
